Charity Dance

January had begun, Christmas fun was in the past, back at work with dark mornings and dark nights. While this is going on a opportunity knocked at the door. We all love being able to raise money for charities, helps those in need and makes us feel good about it. I had the chance to raise so money for charity.

Ultra Ballroom were putting on a event – Ballroom dancing in a suite at Villa Park. Why not I thought, it’s all for a good cause. Putting pen to paper I signed up to the event with my friend Sadie. 26th Feb came along and it was time for us to make our first of many trips to Aura Dance studios in Birmingham. Charlotte and her team had the tough task of turning us into dancers and after the first session probably realised it was going to be a tough ride.

A few weeks in and we had to settle on what dance we wanted perform and what song choice. Sadie had recently had the fantastic news that herself and husband Matt were expecting their first child. Due to this news we decided to do the American Smooth and chose Pretty women as our choice of song to dance to. I believe this choice was mainly down to the fact I look like Richard Gere (just let me have that moment.)

In between lessons it was important that we kept practising but finding a place with space to dance is difficult. We managed to practise in the changing rooms of our local football team. The time was up for practising and it was time for the event. 23rd April had arrived, St Georges Day for most but for Sadie and Myself the day we got to show off our dancing skills after only 8 weeks training. The event raised around £40,000 for Cancer Research. Thanks to everyone who sponsored us and thanks to those who came on the night to support us. Please enjoy the pictures from the event below and the video of the dance.
